Paul Fegan

Senior Advisor, Sydney

Paul joined Gresham in 2014 as Senior Advisor and is based in the Sydney office.

Paul has over 35 years' experience in the financial services industry. He was Chief Financial Officer of Genworth Australia from January 2013 - February 2014 and Group Managing Director, Strategy and Corporate Services with Telstra from February 2011 - January 2012. 

Paul was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St.George Bank from November 2007 and CEO and Managing Director from February 2008 until its merger with Westpac Banking Corporation in December 2008. 

Prior to joining St.George, Paul was based in the UK as Chief Operating Officer of Yorkshire Bank. 

He had held director positions in both Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank and a series of other senior appointments with National Australia Bank in Australia, the US, Hong Kong, the UK and Ireland. 

Paul holds an MBA from the University of Melbourne.

Colin Galbraith AM

Special Advisor, Melbourne

Colin is a Special Advisor to Gresham Partners Limited. He joined Gresham in 2006 after retiring from the partnership of Allens Arthur Robinson. During his time as a partner in that firm Colin advised many of Australia’s leading corporations in a series of landmark mergers, acquisitions and commercial transactions.

Colin is Chairman of BHP Billiton Community Trust, a Director of Australian Institute of Company Directors and CARE Australia and is a Trustee of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuroscience Foundation.

Colin holds the degrees of LL.B (Hons) and LL.M from the University of Melbourne.

Victor Hoog Antink

Senior Advisor, Sydney

Victor is a special advisor to Gresham Partners Limited. He joined Gresham in 2012 after retiring as CEO of the DEXUS Property Group. Prior to his 9 years at DEXUS, Victor was the Director of Funds Management at Westfield responsible for both The Westfield Trust and The Westfield America Trust.

He is a Councilor of Bond University, Chair of Bond Business School Advisory Board and an Independent Director of Sands China Limited (HKSE:1928).

Victor has previously served as the Chairman of South Bank Corporation in Brisbane, President of The Property Council of Australia and Chairman of the Property Industry Foundation.

Victor holds degrees of B. Com from University of Queensland and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute.

Will Jephcott

Special Advisor, Sydney

Will is a Special Advisor of Gresham’s corporate advisory business, Gresham Advisory Partners Limited and is based in Sydney. Will has over 35 years experience in the corporate advisory and investment banking industries.

Prior to joining Gresham, Will was Vice Chairman, Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch (International) Australia. Will was previously a Principal of Centaurus Corporate Advisory Services, one of Australia’s leading boutique advisory businesses, which was merged with Merrill Lynch Australia in 1997. Will has extensive board experience having previously been Chairman of Engin Limited, Vice Chairman of Roc Oil Company Limited, Chairman of NSW Rugby Union Limited and a director of Parbury Limited.

Will’s experience spans a broad range of industries and corporate finance transactions both domestically and globally including mergers and acquisitions advice and capital raisings.

Will holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of NSW, is a fellow of the Australian Society of CPA’s and Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mark Johnson AO

Senior Advisor, Sydney

Mark joined Gresham in 2011 as Senior Adviser and is based in the Sydney office.

Mark has been in the banking and corporate finance industry for 50 years, retiring from his role as Deputy Chairman of Macquarie Bank in 2007 and Chairman of Macquarie Infrastructure Group in 2010. He has recently retired as Chairman of AGL Energy and Guinness Peat Group. He is currently Chairman of Alinta Energy and a Director of Westfield Group.

Mark was Chairman of the Australian Financial Centre Task Force, an Australian Government initiative directed towards ensuring efficiency and competitiveness in the financial services sector. He was one of the three Australian representatives on the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) from 2002 - 2013.

Current affiliations include Chairman of Dragoman, a strategic advisory group, and Chairman of the ASIC External Advisory Panel and the Chairman’s Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was Chairman of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute from 2005 to 2008, and Chairman of ABAC and the APEC Business Summit in Sydney in 2007.

Mark is also Chairman of the US Study Centre Foundation of Sydney University, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the APEC Study Centre at RMIT University, member of the Board of Governors of the Institute for International Trade at the University of Adelaide and a member of the Advisory Council of SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong.

Mark was awarded the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010 and is a Commander of the Order of the Crown (Tonga) and a Life Governor of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of Melbourne, and an MBA from Harvard. He is a Fellow of the AICD.

Martin Houston

Special Advisor

Following  his  studies  which  commenced  with  a  bachelor’s  degree  in  geology  from  Newcastle University in 1979 and then a petroleum geology master’s degree from Imperial College  London  in  1983,  Martin  was  employed  by  BG  Group  plc  and  its  predecessor  companies, retiring after 32 years in February 2014 as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the board of directors.

He’s  managed  all  forms  of  enterprise  in  the  energy  industry,  has  established  a  strong  external reputation in the international gas business and is largely credited with being the key architect of BG Group’s world class LNG business. In recognition of this, in 2011 he was the first recipient of the CWC LNG executive of the year award.

He was previously (2004 – 2009) a non-­executive director of Severn Trent plc, an integrated water  and  environmental  company.    He  is  a  former  director  of  SIGTTO,  the  international  organization representing gas tanker and gas terminal operators worldwide. From 2008 to 2014 he was the GIIGNL regional vice-­‐president for the Americas.

In  January  2014,  he  was  appointed  as  a  non-­executive  director  of  BUPA,  an  international  healthcare group, serving more than 28 million customers in over 190 countries. He sits on the nominations committee and is chairman of the remuneration committee.

In  June  2014,  he  was  appointed  a  non-­executive  director  of  CCC  Energy,  a  private  E&P  company with 45,000 bbl/d oil production in Oman.

In  January  2015,  he  was  appointed  as  the  chairman  of  TPH  International,  a  boutique  investment bank based in Houston, Texas.

In  December  2015,  he  co-­founded  Tellurian  Investments  with  Charif  Souki  and  together  they are developing a 26 mtpa LNG export project in Louisiana (Driftwood LNG). The company was listed on the NASDAQ in February 2017 and is currently trading with a market valuation of $2.0 billion.

In  June  2016,  Martin  was  appointed  as  vice-­chairman  of  Hakluyt  North  a  company  which  provides independent, strategic advice to the world’s leading multinationals and financial institutions on complex issues.

Martin’s other activities include:

Jane McAloon

Special Advisor, Melbourne

Jane is a Special Advisor and is based in the Melbourne office.

Jane has been in the natural resources, energy, infrastructure and utility industries for over 25 years.  Jane was recently an executive at BHP Billiton for 9 years during which she worked on key strategic issues, corporate transactions, as well as market, regulatory and reputational matters.  Prior to this she was an executive at AGL. Jane spent 10 years in leadership roles with the NSW Government Cabinet Office, Energy, Rail and Land/Water Departments.  She worked in private legal practice and Monash University’s Economics Department.

Jane is a Non-executive Director of Healthscope, Energy Australia and not-for-profit Bravery Trust.  She is a Member of the Referendum Council on Constitutional Recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.  She is also a Member of the Monash University Industry Council of Advisers.  Previous directorships include the Australian Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee and Australian War Memorial Council.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from Monash University and a Grad Dip in Corporate Governance. She is a Fellow of the AICD and the GIA.

Julian Mills

Special Advisor, Perth

Julian is a Special Advisor in Gresham's corporate advisory business based in Perth.

He has worked on a variety of corporate transactions in the engineering, industrial, media, education, utilities, transport, and in particular the resources sector.

Takeover defence and merger advice includes advising Brandrill in relation to the Ausdrill merger, Centaurus in relation to the Glengarry merger, Coote in relation to the takeover offer and recapitalisation by the Elphinstone Group, PCH Group in relation to the Cape plc takeover, Portman Mining in relation to Cleveland Cliff's acquisition, MIM in relation to Xstrata, NuStar Mining's defence of the Sedimentary offer, Summit resources in relation to the Paladin offer, Tethyan Copper in relation to Crosby Capital and Antofagasta's offers, and Universal Resources defence of the CopperCo offer.

Acquisitions advice includes Croesus in relation to Central Norseman, Gallery Gold in relation to the Spinifex merger, Iluka in relation to Basin Minerals, Murchison in relation to Midwest and Wesfarmers in relation to Howard Smith.

Trade sales advice includes BHP Billiton’s divestment of the Yabulu refinery, Brandrill's acquisition of DT HiLoad, Iluka’s sale of Thalanga copper, Narama coal and PT Koba tin assets, Navitas's acquisition of ACL and ACBT, the Mitsubishi Murchison joint venture. Wesfarmer's acquisition of Westrail, and the sale of the Lennard Shelf lead and zinc assets for the receiver of Western Metals.

Before joining Gresham Partners, Julian worked with RFC Corporate Finance providing advice to a range of Australian and International clients. Prior to that he worked in Ernst & Young's corporate advisory division in Perth and Commercial Union plc's group corporate finance and planning department in London. Julian also has five years experience as a professional engineer.

Julian holds a degree in engineering with honours from the University of Western Australia, an MBA from the London Business School, where he graduated with distinction, and a post-graduate diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Christine O'Reilly

Special Advisor, Melbourne

Christine has in excess of 30 years of infrastructure and financial experience. She currently sits on the boards of CSL, Transurban, Energy Australia and Baker IDI. She is also Deputy Chair of CARE Australia.

Prior to commencing her current non executive director roles she jointly led the CFSGAM global infrastructure investments business as well as being a member of the CFSGAM Executive Committee. In this capacity she sat on the boards of two of the portfolio investments in the United Kingdom (Anglian Water and Electricity North West).

Prior to joining CFSGAM in July 2007, Christine was Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Gasnet Australia Group, a top 200 ASX listed company which owned, maintained and developed gas transmission pipelines and related infrastructure. She also held a number of industry appointments including vice president of the Australian Pipeline Industry Association, Director, Vencorp (Victorian Energy Corporation), Director, Gas Industry Education Trust, and Director, Victrack.

Her early career included an involvement in the reform and establishment of the regulatory framework for the Australian gas industry, eight years with the investment bank, Centauras Corporate Advisory Services, and audit experience with Price Waterhouse where she qualified as a chartered accountant.

Graham Rich

Deputy Chairman, Sydney

Graham is a founder and Deputy Chairman of Gresham Partners Limited.

Graham completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) degree at the University of New South Wales in 1968 and subsequently joined the Reserve Bank of Australia for two years. He has since enjoyed a long and successful career in merchant and investment banking in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia.

Graham joined the Hambros Bank Group in London in 1970 before relocating to Hong Kong to assist in the establishment of Hambro Pacific Limited. In 1976 Graham returned to Australia to assist in the development of Hambro Australia Limited where he became Deputy Managing Director in 1981.

In 1985 Graham left the Hambros Bank Group to be a founding principal of Gresham Partners Limited and has since been involved in the development of all group activities including corporate financial advice, capital markets and specialist funds management. Graham retired from his executive role in 2010 and is currently a Senior Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Gresham Partners Limited and a director of Gresham Partners Holdings Limited. He has also served as a director of a number of listed and unlisted public companies and charitable institutions. 

Jennifer Seabrook

Special Advisor, Perth

Subsequent to joining Gresham Partners in 1998, Jenny has worked on a variety of mergers, acquisitions and capital structuring advisory transactions.

These have included the sales of Wesfarmers' interest in the Australian Railroad Group, HSBC’s Australian online broking business and margin lending book; the structuring of the buyback rights for West Australian Newspapers; the restructuring of ownership interests in the Heytesbury Group; being a member of the advisory team for the successful takeovers of Coles and Howard Smith, acting on the defence of Tethyan Copper and JDV Limited, advising Wesfarmers on the capital raisings associated with the purchase of Coles, and advising RACWA on the purchase of Suncorp’s interest in RAC Insurance Ltd, and the St Ives Group. Before joining Gresham Partners, Jenny worked with Hartley Poynton, HSBC Group and Touche Ross on a range of transactions which gave her exposure to capital markets, debt markets and valuation issues.  

Jenny has over 20 years board experience and is currently a non-executive director of the Western Australia Treasury Corporation and Australian Rail Track Corporation Limited.  A non-executive director of listed entities: IRESS Ltd, Iluka Resources Limited and MMG Limited. Jenny was a member of ASIC’s External Advisory Group from 2010 to 2013 and the Takeovers Panel from 2000 to 2012. Previous non-executive directorships include Australia Postal Corporation, Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, Western Power, Alinta Gas, Amcor, West Australian Newspapers Holdings Ltd, and Bank of Western Australia Ltd. 

 

Jenny holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Fellow of FINSIA.

Tony Berg AM

Director, Sydney

Tony joined Gresham in 2000 and is a Director of Gresham and Chairman of the Investment Committee of Gresham Property.

Between 1970 and 1972 Tony worked with Loeb Rhoades & Co. in New York, and in 1972 joined Hill Samuel Australia becoming Managing Director in 1984. 

When Hill Samuel became Macquarie Bank in 1985, he was appointed its first Managing Director and CEO.  

In 1994 Tony was appointed Managing Director and CEO of Boral Limited, and retired in February 2000 when the Company was split into two companies: Boral Limited and Origin Energy Limited.

He is also a Director of Kaplan Partners Limited. He was a director of ING Australia Limited and ING Australia Bank, and Chairman of both for some time. Tony is a member of the University of NSW Faculty of Business Advisory Council.

Tony is Chairman of Jawun, Corporate Indigenous Partnerships and a Director of Djarragun College, an indigenous school near Cairns.

Tony has served as a Council Member of The National Gallery of Australia and is a Director of The National Gallery of Australia Foundation Board. He was a director of Musica Viva Australia from 1983-2000, of The Sydney Institute from 1993-97, a Member of the Board of Management of the Australian Graduate School of Management from 1991-98 and 2004-06, and a Member of the Australia Council from 1978-82.

Tony graduated from the University of Sydney with an Honours degree in Economics, and received an MBA with High Distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Management.
